The façade and interior revitalisation of Onomo Johannesburg Sandton Hotel repositions the hotel as a contemporary urban destination within the rapidly evolving Sandton skyline. Situated on West Street, directly adjacent to Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton City, and the Sandton Convention Centre, the upgrade sought to reinforce the hotel’s identity as a modern African hospitality experience — blending technology, culture, and contemporary design.
The façade upgrade introduces a cleaner, more refined architectural expression to the building, enhancing its presence within Johannesburg’s premier business district. Contemporary materials, improved lighting, and a refreshed street interface establish a stronger urban connection while reflecting the energetic character of Sandton’s evolving architectural landscape. The intervention creates a more welcoming arrival experience, balancing sophistication with accessibility in a precinct defined by movement, commerce, and hospitality.
Internally, the refurbishment focused on transforming the guest experience through a series of carefully curated spatial upgrades. Public interiors were reimagined as vibrant social environments — integrating contemporary African influences, local artwork, layered textures, and warm material palettes to create an atmosphere that is both cosmopolitan and authentically rooted in place.
Guest rooms were modernised to reflect a clean and efficient contemporary hospitality language, incorporating integrated technology, dedicated workspaces, enhanced lighting, and refined finishes tailored toward the modern business and leisure traveller. The upgraded interiors prioritise comfort, simplicity, and functionality while introducing a softer and more tactile aesthetic throughout the hotel experience.
The restaurant, lounge, and shared social spaces were similarly repositioned to encourage interaction and activation throughout the day and evening. Inspired by the spirit of contemporary African urban culture, these environments combine relaxed hospitality with curated design elements, creating spaces suited to informal meetings, dining, events, and social engagement.
As part of ONOMO Hotels’ broader African hospitality vision, the Sandton refurbishment reflects a shift toward design-led, culturally connected hospitality experiences — bringing together architecture, interiors, art, music, and local identity within one of South Africa’s most prominent urban destinations.
