Stellenbosch, Western Cape
2025 - present
Set within the rolling vineyards and dramatic mountain landscapes of the Stellenbosch Winelands, the wedding venue and chapel at Sevilo Wine Farm is envisioned as a contemporary sanctuary for celebration, reflection, and gathering. Drawing inspiration from timeless barn architecture, the design reinterprets the agricultural vernacular of the Cape through a refined contemporary lens — combining simplicity of form with rich materiality and deeply considered spatial experiences.
Approached through vineyards and olive groves, the arrival sequence unfolds as a grounded and communal experience. Guests are welcomed into a sheltered arrival court — a place of fellowship and anticipation — where textured stone, gravel pathways, indigenous planting, and filtered light create a quiet transition from the landscape into the sacred heart of the estate.
Positioned at the centre of the site, the chapel emerges as a pure and enduring form against the Stellenbosch mountains. Referencing traditional vaulted structures, the architecture draws the eye upward toward a luminous crown of natural light above the union space — a symbolic expression of revelation, clarity, and spiritual connection. Warm timber linings, natural stone walls, and expansive glazing create a tactile and atmospheric interior that balances intimacy with grandeur, while framing uninterrupted views across the surrounding vineyards and valleys.
Following the ceremony, guests move through a framed threshold into a restorative garden courtyard — a landscape of renewal inspired by themes of Eden, growth, and new beginnings. Water elements, indigenous planting, and shaded gathering spaces soften the transition from sacred ceremony to celebration.
Beyond the chapel, the banquet hall opens toward the broader landscape as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional barn pavilion. The architectural language becomes lighter and more expansive — long rooflines, generous glazing, exposed timber structures, and open thresholds creating a seamless dialogue between interior and exterior. Designed for long-table dining, firelit evenings, and celebratory gatherings, the space is animated by sensory richness: the warmth of open fireplaces, the aromas of the kitchen and surrounding vineyards, and the changing light across the mountains at sunset.
Located within close proximity to Stellenbosch’s celebrated wine estates, boutique accommodation, artisanal food destinations, and cultural attractions, Sevilo Wine Farm offers couples and guests an immersive Winelands experience rooted in both place and memory. The venue becomes more than a destination for ceremony — it is conceived as an architectural expression of permanence, community, and celebration within one of South Africa’s most iconic landscapes.
